SHAKTI | STRENGTH Class Overview

 Welcome to our Shakti program at Dhamma Yoga. Shakti represents the primal cosmic energy—the force of creation and power. This class is designed to harness that power through intense, strength-building postures. Unlike a typical flow, Shakti focuses on holding challenging poses to build muscular endurance, core stability, and mental fortitude. It is a “Strong and Stable” practice that sculpts the body and empowers the will, laying the foundation for advanced movement.

Core & Stability

This class targets the "powerhouse" of the body. We focus heavily on abdominal engagement, back strength, and glute activation to create a stable, injury-free physique.

Static Power

We utilize isometric holds—staying in challenging postures for longer periods. This technique recruits more muscle fibers and builds strength without the wear and tear of high-impact movement.

Answers to common Shakti Yoga questions

Not at all. You join this class to get strong. We offer variations for every pose, allowing you to build strength progressively at your own pace.

Pingala (Vinyasa) is about movement and cardio. Shakti is about stability and muscle endurance. In Shakti, we hold poses longer to make the muscles burn and grow stronger, rather than flowing quickly.

Yoga strength builds lean, functional muscle. You will get toned and defined, but you won't build "bulky" mass like heavy weightlifting.

It is challenging, yes. We aim to push your boundaries safely. Expect to feel your muscles working and perhaps shaking a little—that’s the Shakti energy waking up!
